i mean yeah there are phones and paper, but there will be chances that neither would be available so it'd still be useful to learn the basics at least

I'm sure there are tons of videos online about that kind of thing, if you're interested. And don't forget that your expressions are a key part. Get creative.

But it's... I definitely think it's intimate. I've never had someone who didn't know me come up and sign to me on the street, but I've had a few friends learn basic greetings and gestures without letting me know, all for my sake...

Even though I never asked them to, they put in the effort to learn for someone like me. It's hard to describe that happiness in words.

In that way, I think sign language can make people happy. Like they belong, even if it's just a little bit.

but yeah i totally get that, people taking that one step further just for you
it's something indescribable and that you don't know how to repay them
even though you made your point about sign language being mandatory can be difficult bc of various languages but this is a good start as any
