When I was first scouted for our agency, you already had experience under your belt. I was quite taken with you, actually, but... especially then, I wasn't very good at interacting with people I was interested in. Over time those feelings morphed into admiration and respect, and remained that way. I wanted to be able to stand in the same space as you, but it never felt like I came close. Even when we did have shoots together, you were clearly a step above.

Your attitude also sort of frightened me in a way, but I'm sure you get that a lot.

To be honest, I've been surprised by you. By us. Akira... is nice in a way, sharing the same memories as me at times, being from the same time and place regardless of the circumstances, along with the other Phantom Thieves-- but I'm still quite alone in the sort of feeling I have from them. There may always be that disconnect no matter what, but perhaps that isn't such a bad thing. I think I'm a private person anyway. But I didn't want to talk about my boyfriend or involve you more in that, I wanted to talk about how much it means to me that there is someone who was able to commiserate with me, who regrets the things their other self has done, who'd never want to get a step close to being that sort of person.

I'm lacking in those kinds of friends, you see. You're very important to me as a result, Secchan. Mizuki. In this short span of time of truly getting to know one another, I can certainly say that with all the confidence in the world. [ Despite giving Yukine the pep talk in the ambulance, he can still feel himself shaking in the chair by the emergency room. Blood is stained on his clothes, some already dried at his fingertips. Was it better when it was warm...? As if telling him that there’s hope? Or is it better cold? As if it never happened at all? It’s fine. Those words repeat in his mind, but flashes of Yukine on the floor, struggling, still vivid and lively invade. It’s not the only memory—Okumura’s death feed. Eyes roll back into his head, the businessman starts bleeding black liquid out of every crevice. Finally, a flash of a metal wall in a boiling room appears; there’s just a bright red splatter, one that’s around headshot level. Despite the imagery, he keeps repeating that everything will be okay like a broken record. The staff doesn’t seem to notice because his default and coping expression is neutral though a tinge listless. He, at least, looks fine.

The wound is healed, so all they need to do is pump blood back into him. Yes... He’ll leave it to the doctors. Breath still erratic, he tries to pull out his phone with a fretful hand, haunted with the shaky nerves and unfortunate chills. It’s awful. For one single second, he wishes he was still like before where he can mentally shut down and nothing hurts. The last thing he wants to do is be around people and to talk to anyone, but this is one of the few times he also needs someone. Heart racing, he carefully, but very slowly, crafts a short text to someone random on his list. All he needs is a normal, brief conversation to pull him out of this sickening state.

He misses rationale, composure, and peace. ]
