tbh ive been thinking about it and it might not be that bad of an idea?
crude sign language aside
[ HE HAS YET TO PUT HIS TALENTS ON IT TO GOOD USE ]
didn't know you already know nazunyan though
when is this happening? next month?
no subject
What a cute name. Yeah, he's mentioned you a couple of times before, so I thought you might be more interested in learning with a friend than just me. But if you want one on one lessons, I wouldn't mind that at all either. Proper ones, this time.
I'm pretty flexible most afternoons and weekends, since I'm a tutor anyway. I was thinking sometime in the first few weeks of April, but let me know what would be best for you.
no subject
please do
nazunyan and i go way back, it's not that big of a deal
but obv i'll be free during spring break so maybe sometime that week? maybe on that weekend
no subject
Really? I was worried that most people would be busy over spring break, but I have those days free from my normal tutoring, so I have even more time than usual. I can definitely make some time for you.
no subject
but i seem to be free during that and i'll have some weekends off this month so we'll see
just let me know when you'll be having these sessions and i'll try to make it
no subject
I'm just happy you have an interest in it. It isn't always something I've enjoyed, so it's kind of nice being able to teach other people, you know?
no subject
one on one's good
it's not that i feel awkward in a group, but it can get distracting i think
it's actually quite interesting once you see people doing it?
but what do you mean it isn't something you've enjoyed
no subject
That's... well. It's a long story.
I wasn't born hard of hearing, but I was young when I lost it, so I was immediately forced to learn sign language. But I hated going to those classes. I was better at reading lips anyway, and it made people pity me when I just wanted to be a normal kid. It was like... a pressure placed upon me that I didn't want, I guess. I felt like I didn't fit in with either hearing people or fully deaf people, so I stopped using it. It was easier to just not talk to anyone.
...Sorry, I didn't mean to say so much about myself. You can forget all of that. Anyway, I like it when people take an interest in sign language now. I kind of get to share a part of myself.
But I'll teach you more swears, if you want.
no subject
i mean tbh stuff like ASL and JSL should be mandatory in schools or workforces
it'd be hard to tell if someone's fully deaf or not unless you see them sign, but there are people like you who can still understand without it
regardless even if you can't fully hear, that just means that you need to make your actions speak louder than words, right?
you don't have to teach me how to cuss with my hands some more
i mean
would you really want that
no subject
But I don't know about it being mandatory. Like all languages, sign language is different in every country. And if you don't know any, it's easy enough for most people to write on paper or use their phones instead. But even just learning how to handspell will help. I can pass for a hearing person most of the time, but if someone signed to me, I think I'd be really happy.
No, I wouldn't. But I was trying to lighten the mood.
no subject
and well, i won't say no to more ways on how to say Fuck with your hands
the more creative the better
[ kouhei why are you enabling him ]
i mean yeah there are phones and paper, but there will be chances that neither would be available so it'd still be useful to learn the basics at least
i feel that it's a lot more intimate that way?
but that's just me
no subject
But it's... I definitely think it's intimate. I've never had someone who didn't know me come up and sign to me on the street, but I've had a few friends learn basic greetings and gestures without letting me know, all for my sake...
Even though I never asked them to, they put in the effort to learn for someone like me. It's hard to describe that happiness in words.
In that way, I think sign language can make people happy. Like they belong, even if it's just a little bit.
no subject
you've seen me try it out, after all
but yeah i totally get that, people taking that one step further just for you
it's something indescribable and that you don't know how to repay them
even though you made your point about sign language being mandatory can be difficult bc of various languages but this is a good start as any
i'll be looking forward to your lessons then
no subject
Sena, has anyone ever told you that you're kinder than you seem? I feel like you probably don't hear that often.
I'll see you then.
